Chamber calls for local government reform

Dublin needs to have a single local authority system in areas such as IT, local planning processes, budgets and business rates, according to Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

Dublin needs to have a single local authority system in areas such as IT, local planning processes, budgets and business rates, according to Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

The business organisation said that this would cut bureaucracy and produce substantial savings.

The chamber also wants the powers of a directly elected Dublin mayor, for which legislation is likely to be passed next year, to be extended so that there is more consideration of shared services.
