Central Mental Hospital site in Dundrum worth up to €400m

The Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum in Dublin 14 is now worth between €200 million and €400 million, depending on the density of development that will be allowed on it by planners, according to senior development land sources.

The state is to sell the hospital and its 34-acre site when the hospital is relocated to the Thornton Hall superprison planned for north Dublin. Michael McDowell, Minister for Justice, has signalled that the public-private partnership (PPP) agreement for the Thornton Hall development is likely be concluded within weeks of the Prisons Bill being passed.
