Central Bank to vet brokers' customer care

The Central Bank will carry out an investigation into Irish investment firms' due diligence on prospective clients.

After a judgment that saw the High Court force J&E Davy stockbrokers to pay out €2 million to a client over inadequate investment advice, the Central Bank will carry out an investigation into Irish investment firms' due diligence on prospective clients.

However, making sure that investment brokers give suitable advice to clients is not among the Central Bank's priorities for 2014, the regulator has said.
