The Central Bank may oppose the bid for EBS Building Society by an international private equity consortium led by Dublin-based Cardinal Capital, it has emerged.
Officials at the Central Bank are understood to be concerned that the incentives of the Cardinal group are not aligned with the needs of Ireland’s banking system and that the state faces further credit risk under the terms of its proposal.
