Professor Patricia Casey is quite correct (30/10/05) to suggest that clerical celibacy alone does not explain clerical child abuse and that it would be simplistic to assert that a married Roman Catholic clergy would have eliminated or prevented the problem.

But it is equally simplistic to assert, as she seems to do, that clerical celibacy was not a contributory factor in Ferns and elsewhere.
