The issue of senior bankers’ salaries has fallen through several cracks in the last year.

What appeared to be a political winner for Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan – insisting on a €500,000 per year salary cap for chief executives – has become much more complicated. Last March, the Covered Institution Remuneration Oversight Committee reported to Lenihan. The independent body had been set up following the state guarantee scheme to examine top bankers’ pay....
