The presidency battle should not be dismissed as a ‘‘happy clappy’ contest, writes Mary Davis

I respect Tom McGurk’s plain speaking. However, his recent comments in relation to the presidency are, I believe, laden with easy generalisations and devoid of hope.

Writing in the pages of this paper, and speaking on RTE, McGurk has set out a clear view of the presidency from his perspective. I think that’s a good thing, and that we should have more debate about the role and relevance of the office.
