Cardinal Brady to announce resignation

UPDATE: Cardinal Sean Brady of Armagh, the head of the Catholic Church in Ireland, is expected to announce the appointment of a coadjutor bishop this morning.

Cardinal Sean Brady of Armagh, the head of the Catholic Church in Ireland, will announce the appointment of a successor this morning, prior to stepping down later this year.

Mgr Eamon Martin, 51, will be named coadjutor bishop. Mgr Martin, the secretary to the Irish Bishops’ Conference, was elected administrator of the Diocese of Derry in 2011 following the resignation of Bishop Seamus Hegarty on health grounds.
