The new carbon tax will be phased in over the next year, protecting some householders from higher fuel prices for the winter months. The government’s deliberations on a carbon tax have narrowed to a levy of either €15 per tonne of CO2 emitted or €20 per tonne.

The €15 per tonne figure would be in line with the current European Trading Scheme price, adding an extra 4 cent per litre to the price...
