Car sales still down for year despite jump in August

New car sales were up 20 per cent in August but sales for the year to date are down 8 per cent, according to figures from industry body SIMI.

New car sales were up 20 per cent in August but sales for the year to date are down 8 per cent, according to figures from industry body SIMI.

In August. 3,698 cars were sold, compared to 3,092 last August. But despite an increase in both August and July, the year as a whole is down nearly 8 per cent. 68,544 new cars have been sold so far this year, compared to 74,234 last year, the figures showed.
