Car industry gets sales boost of 29 per cent

New car sales for January are up by 29 per cent on last year, according to the latest figures published by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (Simi).

New car sales for January are up by 29 per cent on last year, according to the latest figures published by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (Simi).

Since the new year, 21,078 vehicles have been bought, an increase in sales of more than 4,700 on the corresponding period in 2010. This is a strong indication that the government scrappage scheme continues to encourage people to buy new cars.
