Cancer czar dismisses US study which shows limitations of breast screening

Ireland's cancer czar Dr Susan O'Reilly has dismissed some of the controversial findings of a major American report on breast cancer screening programmes.

Ireland's cancer czar Dr Susan O'Reilly has dismissed some of the controversial findings of a major American report that stated breast cancer screening programmes had failed to reduce the rate of late-stage disease or decreased cancer mortality.

O'Reilly, who heads the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP), was responding to the report of a working group appointed by the National Cancer Institute in the United States.
