Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore seem likely to be in power in the next government, but the coalition will need to work together if it is to succeed

The votes in this year’s election might not yet have been cast, but it seems almost certain that Fine Gael and Labour will forma coalition government, with Enda Kenny becoming Taoiseach.

A further surge in Labour’s support, making it the largest party, is possible but unlikely to occur. If this happened, Labour could lead a left-wing government and Eamon Gilmore might become Taoiseach.
