Calvani to quit Competition Authority and return to US

The head of the cartels division at the Competition Authority, Terry Calvani, will return to private practice with Freshfields in Washington this summer.

The head of the cartels division at the Competition Authority, Terry Calvani, will return to private practice with Freshfields in Washington this summer.

Calvani - a former commissioner and acting chairman of the US Federal Trade Commission for seven years up to 1990 - was appointed to the new cartels section by Tánaiste Mary Harney three years ago.

He has overseen allegations of cartel behaviour in milk, home heating oil and beer.
