Call for improved cross-border aviation competition

There has been a call to prioritise the transfer of air passenger duty powers to the North’s Assembly to boost cross-border competition, as Dublin sees more Northern traffic.

Stormont: cross-border competition would be improved if air passenger duty (APD) powers were tranferred to the North’s Assembly.

The failure to prioritise the transfer of air passenger duty (APD) powers to the North’s Assembly is restricting competition between Dublin and Belfast, according to Sinn Féin’s economy spokesperson in the North, Daithí McKay.

“It seems that the finance minister [Sammy Wilson] has yet to grasp the potential that the transfer of air passenger duty would have for the local economy,’’ he said.
