C&AG: only two private landfills have been audited

Only two private landfills, and no local authority landfills, have been audited in relation to a landfill levy introduced in 2002, the Comptroller and Auditor General's report has found.

Only two private landfills, and no local authority landfills, have been audited in relation to a landfill levy introduced in 2002, the Comptroller and Auditor General's report has found.

So far just under €321 million has been collected under the levy. Collection costs retained by local authorities in relation to private and unauthorised landfills totalled €1.4 million. The amount paid to the Environment Fund was thus just over €319 million.
