C&AG: €1.2 million yet to be recovered in teacher overpayments

UPDATE: The Department of Education had yet to make an attempt to recover an estimated €1.2 million in overpayments to teachers that dates back to last year.

(CORRECTION: €1.2 million.)

Pay rates for new entrant teachers fell from 1 January 2011 but it took the department nine months to implement the required changes to its payrolls.

It's thought the delay affected 1,600 secondary school teachers, 1,400 primary teachers and 1,700 non-teaching staff.
