Cabinet to back down on €150m cuts to allowances

The government will accept that many of the 1,100 different allowances paid to civil and public servants are part of their core pay and cannot be cut under the Croke Park agreement, *The Sunday Business Post* has learned.

Sources familiar with discussions about a review of allowances being conducted by the government now acknowledge that the savings achieved will be only a fraction of the €150 million that was expected in 2013, and little or nothing...
