A number of controversial areas in the Bord Snip Nua report will get teachers’ blood boiling - from more proposed cuts to substitution cover and special needs provisions to new plans to close smaller primary schools and merge third-level institutions. Education would also be hit with the highest number of job losses - 6,930 positions - if the report, which aims to make annual savings of €746 million in the sector, is implemented in full.
