Irish businesses are reducing their use of cheques at a faster pace than consumers, but the country is now only one of six European Union member states that still use cheques for regular payments, new research from the Central Bank has shown.
Cheques issued in Ireland are projected to be €61 million in 2014, down from €69 million in 2013 and from €132 million in 2005.
