The state greyhound body is being allowed to hold onto the lucrative betting licence at tracks which is worth €3 million per year. Bord na gCon has held the licence for on-course betting at all greyhound tracks for the past 54 years. It applies an on-course levy on all bookmakers' betting and puts the money back into the greyhound industry.

But with the licence due to expire in November, Bord na gCon had privately warned that...
