Business of Media: Celebrity salaries are not RTE's only headache

While the pay cheque of Pat Kenny and the other stars may get people's backs up, the real problem for RTE has been the escalating losses it has stacked up since the bottom fell out of the ad market.

RTE was again under scrutiny last week with the Joint Committee on Communications grilling director-general Noel Curran about the extent to which the broadcaster had its financial problems under control.

Unsurprisingly, the deputies and senators were keen to focus on 'celebrity' pay packets, with the high salaries of some 'stars' always guaranteed to generate headlines.
