Midway through a guided tour of Druids Glen with Richard Collins, the chief executive of the Co Wicklow resort, a familiar figure emerges from the hotel gym.

It’s Dick Roche, the former minister and former Wicklow TD, coming from his midmorning work-out. Roche has history at Druids Glen - in December 2008, he was one of nine people held at gunpoint during an armed robbery at the hotel.
