Small business groups have attacked finance minister Brian Cowen's “caring" budget this weekend, saying that it will lead to spiralling costs.

Small business groups have attacked finance minister Brian Cowen's “caring" budget this weekend, saying that it will lead to spiralling costs.

They have warned that Cowen's modest tax cuts will do little to curb pay demands next year, despite the generally positive reception for the budget last week.

Leading economists have also been critical, saying that Cowen missed a chance to reform the income tax system.
