The Commission of Investigation on the banking crisis refused a request by Labour Party finance spokeswoman Joan Burton to meet to discuss its progress.

Burton sought to meet Peter Nyberg, the former Finnish civil servant heading the commission, as a member of the Oireachtas Finance Committee, but was refused on the grounds that it wanted to ensure the investigation’s ‘‘integrity and independence’’.
