Burton warns 'limits of austerity' now reached

Joan Burton, the Minister for Social Protection, warned yesterday that citizens had reached "the limits of austerity" in a speech to a St Vincent de Paul conference in Dublin.

In a move likely to be seen as a call for a weakening of budget cutbacks, Burton advocated a "new economic strategy based on sustainable growth, investment and full employment".
