The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has not given up on her ambition of persuading Fine Gael and employer groups of the benefits of a new sick pay scheme with employer contributions.

Burton will tomorrow open a major consultation process in a fresh bid to build political consensus around new ways to plug the €1.5 billion hole in the Social Insurance Fund.
