Builders are facing potential tax bills running into tens of millions of euro after a Munster construction company lost a tax case last week over a Vat scam that is widely used in the industry.

The Revenue Commissioners last Thursday successfully defended a tax assessment raised against the building company, which had used a legal loophole to avoid the payment of Vat.
