A building worker who was sacked for taking time off when his wife had a baby has been awarded €30,000 for unfair dismissal.

Joshua Selfridge of Balreask Village, Navan, Co Meath, appealed against the recommendation of the Rights Commissioner in a case involving BK Groundworks of Luttrelstown Walk, Castleknock, Dublin 15.

Selfridge told the Employment Appeals Tribunal that he star ted working for BK Groundworks ten years ago. In 2008, his wife was expecting a baby...
