How did we get here?
The unexpected upswing in the economy is undoubtedly the largest single factor behind the government’s anticipated neutral budget, which will be announced on Tuesday.
Investec Ireland chief economist Philip O’Sullivan said “stronger-than-expected growth in output, allied to buoyant tax revenues, means no new austerity measures are needed to achieve a deficit of less than 3 per cent of GDP this year”.
