Cuts across other areas of welfare spending will further reduce the money available to many vulnerable people.

Despite maintaining the weekly rates in all core social protection benefits, cuts across other areas of welfare spending will further reduce the money available to many vulnerable people.

It fell to the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin, to outline the Government's plan to cut its spending in the coming year. In total, the Government needed to find some €2.2 billion on the expenditure side of the equation in Budget 2012.
