Last Thursday morning, stock exchange officials were trying to hide their glee at a u-turn executed by the Revenue Commissioners.

Two weeks earlier in a surprise St Patrick’s Day announcement, it emerged that the Revenue had extended the standard 1 per cent share stamp duty to CFDs (contracts for difference), the derivative products based on Irish equities which help account for up to a third of the turnover on the Dublin market.
