British strike closes 50% of schools

Strike fails to impact on air travel; government says less than one third of civil servants joined in

Members of 30 public-sector unions walked out in a dispute over pensions with Prime Minister David Cameron’s government, closing more than half the schools in England though failing to disrupt air travel.

Early indications were that less than a third of civil servants joined today’s one-day strike, Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude said in London today.
