House prices in Britain rose at their fastest annual pace in nearly a decade last month, new figures from Nationwide revealed today.

UK house prices climbed by 1 per cent in June after a 0.7 per cent rise in May, bringing the annual rate of increase to 11.8 per cent, the largest increase since the beginning of 2005.
