Brennan seeks pension advice from Australia

The Minister for Social Affairs, Seamus Brennan, met Australian senator Nick Sherry earlier this month to discuss the Antipodean country’s compulsory pension system, which was introduced about 20 years ago.

The Minister for Social Affairs, Seamus Brennan, met Australian senator Nick Sherry earlier this month to discuss the Antipodean country’s compulsory pension system, which was introduced about 20 years ago.

Under the Australian scheme, an employee who earns more than €267 (A$450) a month must make a contribution to a pension scheme.

‘‘The experience in Australia is worth studying, though it does add to labour costs,” Brennan told The Sunday Business Post last week....
