Spending on sponsorship is set to surge by 20 per cent this year to €135 million, in what consultant Onsides Sponsorship believes will be a breakthrough year for the marketing tool.

A report from the company says that sponsorship spend was €113 million in 2007,with rugby attracting more endorsements than ever before.
