Bomb find highlights splinter group threat
Dissident republicans have been regrouping over the past year – with a doubling in the number of bombing incidents, writes Public Affairs Correspondent John Burke
When a 600lb bomb was intercepted by police in south Armagh last week, there was muted surprise among gardaí and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). Both police forces had believed for some time that a large attack was likely on police in the North.
The number of bomb attacks in the North has doubled over the past year, while Garda detection and arrests in the Republic appear to have risen in tandem.
