Given how eagerly the stylemags clasped Bjork to their bosoms a decade ago, it would have been easy for her to take the money and allow herself to be moulded into an upmarket Kylie Minogue figure.
Though many of her recent releases have flirted with shapeless self-parody, she's to be lauded for steering her career down a far riskier path. Drawing Restraint 9, the soundtrack to Matthew Barney's arthouse film shot on board a Japanese whaling ship, is as opaque and understated as any of her last few albums.
