Bishop's X case claim is 'hyperbole', says O'Rourke

Former cabinet minister Mary O'Rourke has described a bishop's claim that legislating for the X case would mean a "culture of death" as "hyperbole of the worst kind".

The former Fianna Fáil minister Mary O'Rourke has described a Catholic bishop's claim, that legislating for the X case would lead to a "culture of death", as "hyperbole of the worst kind".

O'Rourke, who took part in cabinet committees ahead of the 1992 and 2002 abortion referendums, said she believed it was time to move on to legislation, regulation and protocols, "albeit with a heavy heart. We can't keep up this limbo forever".
