Details of a long-awaited bill aimed at reducing the state's spend on medicines are due to be published before the Dáil summer recess.
The draft Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Bill 2012 will facilitate the introduction of reference pricing and the generic substitution of medicines.
The Department of Health said that, once enacted, the new system would be introduced on a phased basis.
