Best use not being made of junior doctors – IMO

The Department of Health should support the reassignment of inappropriate tasks from non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs) in some Irish hospitals to help alleviate the current manpower crisis, according to the new chairman of the Irish Medical Organisation’s (IMO) NCHD committee.

Dr Mark Murphy said that many hospitals were not making the best use of NCHDs and that too many NCHDs were carrying out routine tasks - such as taking blood and monitoring patients...
