Beaumont Hospital has closed the living donor kidney transplant list to new patients, while a theatre that was opened to facilitate more transplants lies idle.
The Irish Kidney Association said the Dublin hospital, which is the only kidney transplant unit in the country, had stopped accepting new patients for living donor transplants. It said an operating theatre that was kitted out last year in order to facilitate more transplants was not being used.
