Maeve Barry is launching a new business in a recession, but she is philosophical about her timing.

‘‘I think if I can get sales now in the middle of a recession, I must be on to a good thing,” she said. ‘‘Babies are still being born, around 60,000 of them every year.”

Barry’s business is an online shop called babyelephant.ie, which offers hampers for babies and expectant mothers.
