Bank of Ireland will start negative equity mortgages for customers who are behind in their payments.

Bank of Ireland said it will begin selling mortgages to homeowners in negative equity.

“The majority of our customers are not in financial difficulty but some of those who purchased homes are currently in negative equity,” the bank said in an e-mail statement. “Many of these customers can afford the new repayments associated with a new mortgage but the negative equity was previously blocking their move.”
