Gardaí are investigating the issue of forged sterling £50 notes by Bank of Ireland in Bray, Co Wicklow.

The counterfeit notes were discovered in south-east London when an unsuspecting customer attempted to use one to buy a meal two weeks ago.

The customer had obtained £300 from the bank in £50 notes, all of which were forged.
