The insurance industry is facing a bill of almost €160 million for claims relating to bad weather last winter.
The cost of claims for weather events last December, January and February brings to almost €1.5 billion the total amount paid out in claims for so-called weather events, such as storms, big freezes and floods since November 2000, according to figures from Insurance Ireland, the representative body for the insurance sector.
