The government has announced water charges that will see the average household pay €240 annually.

Every household will receive a free allowance of 30,000 litres, with additional allowances to cover “normal water consumption” by under-18s, likely to be 38,000 per child. The average household in the state is estimated to use 140,000 litres of water per year.
