August jobless rate sticks at 14.7%

The unemployment rate in August was unchanged from July at 14.7 per cent, according to the latest information from the Central Statistics Office.

The seasonally adjusted Live Register fell by 2,000 in August, bringing the seasonally adjusted total to 434,400.

Merrion economist Alan McQuaid said in a note: "The bottom line is that the labour market remains very weak.
