Athlone expects 50,000 for triathlon
About 50,000 people are expected to line the streets of Athlone this week as the European Triathlon Championships bring world class athletes to the town, writes Emma Kennedy
In total, more than 4,000 entrants have signed up to take part in the Waterways Ireland triAthlone 2010 event, a four-day triathlon festival that incorporates the European championships.
The event will be in the top five triathlon events internationally in terms of size and is expected to generate more than €9 million for the local economy.
