Assault allegations at mental hospital

Two nurses who claimed mentally ill patients were assaulted by staff at a psychiatric hospital have sought legal advice with a view to instigating legal proceedings against the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Two nurses who claimed mentally ill patients were assaulted by staff at a psychiatric hospital have sought legal advice with a view to instigating legal proceedings against the Health Service Executive (HSE).

The whistleblowers, who worked as psychiatric nurses at St Brigid’s long-stay psychiatric hospital in Ardee in Co Louth, allege there has been a ‘‘huge cover-up’’ in the case, which is disputed by the HSE.
